What is the “30-Hour Famine” event?
The FBCOKC Youth are fasting for 30 hours to raise money for our church’s World Mission Offering. Our WMO supports missionaries like Aaron & Grace Ogburn (Italy) and Tim Tillinghast (Germany) who are working to translate the Bible into various languages. Another organization we support is called MEBO which equips churches and organizations in the Middle East to share the love of Christ. The WMO also supports community ministries like Good Shepherd, CareForOKC, and our ministries at McKinley Park. Check out all the mission partners we support!
- Aaron and Grace Ogburn - Pioneer Bible Translators
- Tim Tillinghast - Wycliffe Bible Translators
- Good Shepherd
- CareForOKC - Food Pantry and Clothes Closet at FBCOKC
- Ministries to families at McKinley Park
- Boys Ranch Town
- Kids Off Broadway Scholarships
- Grace OKC Church After-School Program
Our youth will be asking friends, family, and their church to sponsor them for the famine. For example, a student may ask a grandparent to give $1 for every hour they fast which would be a $30 donation towards the FBCOKC World Missions Offering. Sponsors can make checks out to FBCOKC and write "WMO" or "Missions" in the memo line or give cash.

During the event, our youth will learn more about all of our mission partners and the work they are doing both in OKC and around the world. We will play some fun games, serve at the Regional Foodbank, worship together, and learn how fasting can draw us into the presence of God.
When does the event begin and end? Where is the event being held?
Parents need to drop off their students at 7:00PM at First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City (north doors under the carport) on Friday, June 8 and pick them up at 7:00PM at the same place on Saturday, June 9. We will be spending the night at the church. Although students will not come to the church until 7:00PM on Friday, they need to begin fasting at 12:30PM on their own. Eat lunch on Friday and then begin the fast.
Students and parents both may be a bit nervous about fasting for 30 hours (essentially missing 3 main meals). Water and juice are not a part of the fast and WILL be available throughout the weekend. We will keep the kids hydrated! We will have a doctor or nurse from FBCOKC with us the entire weekend to make sure our students stay safe and healthy. Also, this will NOT be a lock-in atmosphere where we stay up all night. We will go to bed at a reasonable time so that the students can rest and have energy for Saturday’s activities. If a student would like to participate in this event but cannot fast for the entire 30 hours, please let me (Brad) know and we can make provisions for this.
An FBCOKC Medical form must be turned in for each student attending this event. Even if you’ve filled one out recently, please do it again so I can be sure to have up-to-date medical info for an event like this. You can find the form at the top of this page!
This event is absolutely FREE! But please remember to bring the money you have raised so we can send it to the families who need our help.
What to Bring
We will be staying at the church on Friday night, so keep that in mind as you plan. Showers will be available to use. Here’s the list: your donations envelope, sleeping bag, pillow, Bible, notebook, pen, recreation/casual clothes, jacket (just in case), toiletries, towel, washcloth. You may bring your cell phone but will only be permitted to use it for emergencies.
What NOT to Bring
MP3 players, game systems, or any other types of electronics that would distract you from fully investing in the weekend. Of course alcohol, drugs, fireworks, and weapons are not permitted.
Questions or Concerns?
Please feel free to give me a call or email if you have any questions. I truly cannot wait for this weekend because God is going to do something special. Please begin praying right now that God would speak loudly and clearly to all of us.
ONE MORE REMINDER! Students will begin fasting on their own at 12:30PM on Friday, June 8 and end the fast together with the group at 6:30PM on Saturday, June 9. So eat lunch on Friday and then start your fast.
