	Nov. 2 will mark the 120th anniversary of the First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City (FBCOKC). The downtown church will hold three special worship services on Nov. 1, 8 and 15 to commemorate the milestone. “This church sprang to life just days after the Land Run and has played a key role in Oklahoma City’s history,” said senior pastor Dr. Tom Ogburn. “For generations, this church was known as the ‘Lighthouse on the Corner.’ That description still fits us today, but now our ministries reach not just into our community but around the world, as well.” For three consecutive Sundays, FBCOKC will focus on the past, present and future of the historic church: The service on Nov. 1 will highlight FBCOKC’s present, featuring a multi-cultural worship experience that will include participation by the church’s Chin (Burmese) and Hispanic congregations. On Nov. 8, worshipers will highlight the past when the FBCOKC Sanctuary Choir and First Family Singers will present a “Gospel Gathering,” complete with choral and congregational gospel singing. The service will include testimonies from church members, who will talk about what the church and their church family means to them. The celebration will close on Nov. 15 when church members look toward the future, with special musical numbers and a rededication of the church’s building. A churchwide luncheon will follow the service. “People often look at First Baptist Church and assume that its influence has always been in the downtown area,” Ogburn said. “Believe it or not, this church planted more than 65 churches all around this area. We are still planting churches today and reaching out to our world through missions and ministry. For 120 years, that’s been our goal.” All are invited to attend any or all of the celebratory events.
