The joy of faith in Christ |A Heart For God
|Here's how faith works:
We must acknowledge that we need God. (Romans 3:22-23) The answer to our spiritual
hunger is a personal relationship with God. We cannot be good enough or do enough on our own. The word
"sin" means simply the places where we have missed the mark, treated our relationship with others or
our relationship with God carelessly and have violated the meaning and purpose of these relationships.
The good news is that there is an answer.
We must confess that we need Christ in our lives. (Romans 6:23) You sometimes hear people talk
about Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. What they, and we, mean by that is that the way we find
forgiveness for our sins is through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
The price for sin is not just broken relationships and the regular consequences for our actions.
It is more than that. Sin breaks our relationship with God; it creates a spiritual emptiness;
it makes us less than we were intended to be. To find the answer for sin, for your spiritual
emptiness, you must confess that you have sinned, that you need Jesus Christ and, in prayer, invite
God into your heart and life as your savior from sin. You will discover life
in Christ, not only for now, but for all of eternity. When Christ is in your life, you will find
forgiveness and will enjoy the promise of living forever in the presence of God.
We must claim Christ as the Lord, or director, of our lives. If we claim Christ as
the One who saves us from our sins, we must also invite him to become the Lord, or director, or our lives.
We were created for a relationship with God and with others. God has a purpose for our lives and a
way we in which our lives are intended to be lived. When you claim Christ and become a Christian,
you gives the leadership of your life to Christ so that you might live the kind of life that you
were created to live. You will discover that, rather than being burdened with a long list of "thou
shalt not" rules, you are instead freed to live a life of joy, because you are living life the way
God intended-firmly planted in a healthy relationship with Him. And it will affect every aspect of
your life, including the way you live with those around you. Jesus tells us in the book of Matthew,
"Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find
rest for your souls." God gently leads us to walk in His ways.
Let others know. We are told in scripture to let others know publicly of our decision to
follow Christ. Our church uses the New Testament model of baptism to tell the world that we
have chosen to follow Jesus. Throughout all of history, Christians have also discovered that we need
each other to grow in our relationship with God. We do this by studying the Bible and worshipping
God together. We invite you to let us know if you have chosen to claim Christ for your life. We
invite you to come to learn and worship with us at First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City and to
see if this might be the church home you are looking for.
